Here is just a glimpse at some of the exciting classes we offer!

Doug Baldwin

Doug Baldwin is a commercial and fine art photographer. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, he opened a commercial photography company. Since then he has created photography, designed websites, produced videos and created graphic design for a wide range of clients from individual glass artists to Fortune 500 corporations.

Doug has taken up flameworking after classes with Dolly Ahles and Laurie Nessel at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona and at Arrow Springs in California. His love for all things glass has widened to include glass fusing, slumping, sand carving, kiln work, neon and plasma sculptures. Many glass and bead artists would like to have nice photos of their finished pieces, but don't have the technical expertise to accomplish good photos themselves. Doug has recognized this need and has designed several classes that will teach everyone the secrets of good lighting and camera settings to achieve professional results easily.

You'll learn specific techniques of lighting glass and how to build your own simple lighting setups using inexpensive materials found at your local big-box store. See how to utilize the camera you already own to successfully shoot glass objects. Photography class students should plan to bring at least 6 pieces of their glass art and camera. In the Photoshop class students will learn the tools and techniques to create color accurate image files ready for use on a website, in magazine articles, books and portfolios. Plus, how to purchase Photoshop at less than the full retail price. Photoshop class students may bring a laptop to follow along in Photoshop.

If you don't have Photoshop installed, a 30 day free trial version will be available during the class. You'll leave the class empowered to create photos as beautiful as the glass art you're photographing. Doug's teaching experience includes photography at Art Center College of Design, sold out photography and Photoshop classes at the Bead & Button Expo and at the Mesa Arts Center in Arizona.

Get ready to cut the glass, fire up the kilns and torches and create: The 2012 Glass Craft & Bead Expo is back and filled with quite a few new classes for you to explore. Step out of your "norm" and take a crossover class. This seems to be the "hot" thing to do. There is a $15 Entry fee per person for all three days of the show.

We are happy to welcome back some popular instructors that haven't taught with us for a few years. Of course this only adds to our already impressive roster of instructors. Learn new techniques to add to your already proven ones. As always our show floor will be packed with over 120 exhibiting companies ready to show and explain to you all the latest technology. The economy is playing havoc with us all, however the glass community always steps up, puts their best feet forward and promotes what they love best: GLASS!

We continually try to enhance the Glass Craft & Bead Expo to bring you the most sought after techniques and tools making the Expo the premier event of the year! The 2012 Gallery of Excellence will be co-sponsored by GlassCraftsman Magazine and will be sure to bring out the "best of the best." The "demo" area for the 2012 show will be co-sponsored by Glass Patterns Quarterly and The Flow Magazines. They have compiled a fabulous line up of experts to bring you the new techniques and tools with live demonstrations each day on the show floor.

GlassCraft Inc. and A Sanborn Corporation have sponsored the recycling bins that you will see throughout the classroom areas as well as on the show floor. Please use them to dispose of your plastic water bottles and paper scraps. Slumpys is graciously suppling all students with lanyards for their class badges - which are being sponsored by D & L Art Glass Supply. Take a free shuttle to the fabulous Las Vegas Strip and back Saturday evening compliments of Pacific Art Glass.
